What a lovely read.

Somewhat related, I recently looked into just how ubiquitous the English language is and it turns out, at the height of the British empire, it encompassed 1/4 of the Earth's land mass. I'm sure this is common knowledge, but looking at it this way, it's no surprise how English came to be the 'default' language around the world.
