While reading your piece, I thought of a book called "Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist" by Paul Kingsnorth. I highly, highly recommend it. The author, who was heavily involved in conservation/environmental efforts for decades, addresses the ways the movement has changed today -- and how "sustainable" solutions perhaps aren't what will save us after all (and of course, we talk about these issues only in the ways that they affect HUMANS, but we fail to include how they affect ALL living beings who possess intrinsic value on this precious planet.)
